Across the Mojave Desert

It was windy all night and still windy in the morning. We left a little after 8:00 and were pushed by the wind. Nice day except for the wind. Scattered clouds but plenty of sun. Nothing exciting - just a very long road across the desert. Rout 66 was next to us much of the way. Narrow two lane road that follows the topography of the land over the dunes. No grading at all. If road goes over sloping dune it slopes sidewise. Hard to believe that it was THE road that everyone used as we drive next to it on a four lane freeway.

Got to Kingman in a drizzle which finally blew away about 5pm. RV park is no big deal but is off the freeway and has full hookups and a neighbor with unsecured WIFI. :) Time to end this and get off.

The Journey Begins

We got up at 6:00 am to finish packing and rigging the carbus, car, and bikes for travel. At 7:45 a final look around and we closed and locked the front door and began our adventure. Traffic through Sacramento was quite good - 55 or better all the way. I chose to go down 99 instead of I5. More direct and more to see along the way. Rain to Sacramento then mixed clouds and sun the rest of the day. Stopped at a rest stop for lunch and then to Costco in south Bakersfield for gas. Then headed east up the Tehachapis. Passed through a HUGE wind mill farm (picture is only a very small part there are windmills on top of what looks like several miles of ridge top)

and shortly after stopped for the day just north of Mojave. About 8 hours of driving - much more than enough but will make tomorrow easier. The word for this place is WIND - lots of it. RV park has lots of trees which help but will be glad to be gone from here.

Getting closer to the day

Sue came home Thursday. Long trip. She went to San Dimas Wednesday to see her sister and then on to San Bernardino to see her friend Portia. Had good visits with both.

Since then we have been picking away at list of things to do before we push off. Mostly down to loading carbus, mounting bikes on car, and hooking up car to carbus. Pretty much have local stuff covered.

Looks like we will miss another post season tax counselor party. Oh well. We've missed the last three.
