We got up about 7:00 and spent several hours doing final packing of odds and ends and food from the refrigerator. Closed up the house and turned off all nonessential electrical items. We left right at 10:00 am.

Mustard!  It was everywhere and lots of it!

That is Mount Lassen in the distance.

Great weather. A little breezy with helped with fantastic visibility.

Mount Lassen.

We could see Mount Shasta from over 100 miles away as we drove north.

Note the road surface – there will be future comparisons.

Arrived in Redding about 2:00 pm.

Here is carbus at Redding Elks.

After a late lunch we took a walk on the river trail and did some geocaching.

Local family out for afternoon swim at historic swimming hole on the Sacramento river.

As we crossed the river on an old bridge that is now totally dedicated to foot traffic we saw something interesting. On the bridge, in the middle of the river a portion of the roadway was roped off enclosing about ten tables. They were formally set with white table cloths, glassware, silverware, cloth napkin, and enclosed candle center20100501-7pieces. A food station was being set up and what looked like a gift table. It appeared that a formal wedding reception. was going to be held in the middle of the Sacramento River. Good day for it. The temperature in late afternoon was mid 80’s.

Sundial bridge.  We didn’t visit here this time but it is something  that everyone should visit if in the area or just passing through Redding.  It is less than a mile off the freeway.  The large pointy thing on the right is the support for the bridge (think contemporary Golden Gate) but it is also the gnomen for a sundial that is in a park area on the right (north) bank.  Pretty cool.
