Drive to Banff

image_map

We left the nice little RV park in Revelstoke about 8:30 am.  Sunny and mild.  East on Canada 1 through the Canadian Rockies.  Very good two lane road with many passing lanes.  Most of the resorts and campgrounds are still closed.  Season starts in a couple of weeks.  At the Lake Louise junction the weather clouded a bit but only one sprinkle of rain/snow.  We lost an hour somewhere in the Rockies so we hit the junction about 12:30 local time.  Headed south about 35 miles to Banff.  Went right through town and on up a hill to the government campground.  No line.  We drove right up to check-in station.  The very nice attendant gave us a choice spot on a ridge overlooking the rest of the campground and with views on all directions.

After lunch we went to town to obtain our permits and learn of things to see and do.  Every person in a Canadian national park has to have a permit.  Permits are issued by the day which can get pretty pricey but there are annual permits which are less than the price of six days of individual permits.  We plan to be in one or more national parks for seven or eight days so went with annual permits.  After selling us our permits the young man gave us about twenty minutes of introduction to the parks and all that was available to see at this time of year.  Very pleasant and very informative.  We now have much to choose from.
