Vancouver
Day 84
Dan and Yolanda graciously offered to give us a quick overview tour of Vancouver. As we learned later, having an escorted tour by people who really know the city is VERY helpful. Vancouver has a lot of people and a lot of traffic in a small area. This is compounded by the fact that pretty much ALL traffic flow must traverse the same few streets and bridges. Driving and navigating knowing nothing about the city would not be fun.
We started the tour with lunch at a Dim Sum restaurant. This was a new experience for us. We had heard of restaurants where one ordered individual items from a menu but this was done in a more authentic (we were told) fashion. You sit at your table and carts are wheeled by with various dishes on them, each cart with different items. You pick items that look interesting to you. Soon another cart will come by with more choices. You have to be careful. There is so much variety it is impossible to sample everything. Each dish is bite size so it doesn’t seem like you are eating much but when you stop for a moment you realize that you are getting full and soon will be uncomfortable if you keep going.
On to Vancouver.
Granville Island is a touristy, upscale, funky, shopping area with other businesses mixed in. Sort of a mix of Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row, and others but not really. Lots of stuff in a very small area with little parking. We drove through and looked. Could not find parking.
