Back to the USA

Day 85

Breakfast of potato pancakes a la Dan and more conversation and then it was time to head south.

Before leaving we give you a very inadequate sample of their back yard.  Twenty years ago it was Just barren ground with no plants or trees.   Now it looks like this.

One half acre.  With the exception of the ground under the fruit trees, there is not an inch of empty space.  Flowers and plants of many varieties with little repetition.  Brick pathways perfectly laid with no unevenness. Hidden watering systems.  Large vegetable and berry garden.   Impossible to describe or show properly.  Amazing, talented family, in many, many ways.

Yolanda and Dan, thank you very much for your gracious and generous hospitality.  Our stay with you was a highlight of a trip filled with memories.

Less than a half hour on our way we were in line to cross the border.  Line moved quickly and soon we were at customs.  We were asked some of the standard questions and had a brief look  over of the inside of the carbus and the refrigerator and we were back in the USA for the last time (this trip ).  :)

Fifteen or twenty minutes later we entered Lynden, WA.  This small town has a Dutch theme.  Windmills and tulips, etc.  It was Saturday and things were pretty quiet.  Suspect things would be quiet in the middle of the week too.  We had some Canadian cash that we needed to dispose of.  Lynden is so close to the border that most of the town deals in both US and Canadian currency.  We located an open bank and were able to exchange the paper money but they would not take the coins.  We then strolled the main street for a bit and came across a bakery.  Dutch pastry! AND, they take Canadian money.  We bought a cinnamon role and a scone (pretty inexpensive too) and used up all our Canadian coins, making up the balance with a little US cash.  Clear of foreign money and breakfast for a couple of days.  Such a deal.

Five miles south of Lynden we found a very nice RV park with large grass spaces, full hookups, free showers, mini golf, and a POOL.  This area is having a ‘heat wave’ of sorts after many days of rain.  Temps in the mid 80’s.  The pool was a pleasant amenity.
